Yarn Flower Hair Tie

I made this for Isabel a couple weeks ago, I'm just behind on updating the blog. Haven't been taking a lot of pictures lately, but I will get updated with what I have.

Ice Skating and a Craft

I belong to a "Creative Cirle" group that meets about twice a month. And whereas most women at it crochet, some of others do other crafts. So, I made the above "paper" dolls for Isabel to play with in the tub at our last meeting. The idea came from Serving Pink Lemonade. I thought this idea was genius. It sticks so good. She stayed in the bathroom for 45 minutes playing with these dolls, well, until her baby brother woke up and I stuck him in there with her and he amputated an arm on one of the dolls, but that is simple enough to make another one.

These are pictures from skating tonight. I planned out a playgroup family event at a skating park that has a bonfire on Saturday nights. It was so much fun to roast hotdogs and marshmallows in January. I hope we can get out to do this one more time this season. I am sure we'll get out ice skating more, but the bonfire is what I am talking about. We had seven families join us.

Sparkly Trees Craft

Isabel & I made these trees. They were inspired by some that Martha Stewart had created. Although, if we ever make them again we will use hot glue instead of school glue because the sequins have been falling off. But they sure are pretty.

Fall Crafts

The top one is a beaded pumpkin. It was supposed to be a pumpkin bracelet, but she made it too big, so now it's just a hanging decoration (she also wants to save it to hang on the Xmas tree). The two pumpkins that Isabel & I did were fun & easy.

And the scarecrow was a family endeavor for a preschool project. Mommy did the hat & attached the limbs & added the straw; daddy did the body; Isabel did the head & arms; Henry finger painted the legs. It is now hanging in the hallway at school with other family scarecrows.

Easter Bunny & Pillocase Dress

Well, we weren't expecting to meet the Easter Bunny on Saturday, but there it was at the grocery store when we went. When we were there in the morning I just had Isabel with me. But since Henry was resistant to napping I decided he would get to go meet the Easter bunny to and we came back, of course Isabel wanted to come along again.

This is one of her Easter surprises, although she was begging so much to know what I was working on, so I finished it that night and gave it to her Saturday morning. She doesn't know about the Rose Petal Tutu I made her too. Anyways, the pillowcase dress seemed to flouncy around the middle, not really flattering at all. So, I made a tie belt out of the same fabric which makes it look so much cuter. It is cinched around the waist and gives it pleasing pleasts on the top. I used the pattern for this dress from here, but had to adpat it to her measurements since she is wearing a size 5 right now.
Ok - getting caught up on the blog. A few more posts to go.....

Paper Bowl

I don't have a picture of the final product yet because it is still drying. She had a great time making this paper bowl and coudl do all of the steps. I don't own a sieve (just colanders) so we made due with reusing a plastic container as the mold and let it dry overnight so that it would hold shape and I could flip ove the top of a smaller container to dry the outside.

Her favorite part was squishing the excess water from the slurpy stuff. You can find the directions to make your own paper bowl here.

We started out with pink construction paper, but once we added the newspaper to it, it became putple, which she thought was pretty neat to see her paper change color.

Now I really want to make paper making frames so that Isabel & I can make some homemade paper. That would be fun and a neat gift.

Piggy Pancakes

I got the idea from this blog called The Mother Load. I thought it was a cute idea and earlier this week when we went to the library they had the book, "If You Give a Pig a Pancake" on display, so I checked it out so we can read it (she thinks it's hilarious) and so that I can make these Piggy Pancakes.
